Korea 2012: Day 15 (Petite France 쁘띠프랑스 - Nami Island 남이섬 종합휴양지)

Hey there! So we're down to pretty much the second-last day spent in Korea during my holiday in 2012. We went out of Seoul once again to explore some famous filming locations (not that I actually watched any of them - but they were really beautiful sceneries). I have absolutely no regret travelling all that way just to catch those views.

The journey to Petite France 쁘띠프랑스 can be excruciatingly painful for people with motion sickness. The roads are extremely winding and thus buses have to drive slowly and sometimes jerkily (due to other bad drivers). One girl that took the shuttle bus with us actually puked due to the winding roads and her friends ran to the back of the bus complaining that it was too smelly. HOW MEAN OF THEM!  >: (

The concept of Petite France 쁘띠프랑스 encapsulates ‘flowers, stars, and the Little Prince.’ The village contains a memorial hall dedicated to Saint-Exupery, the author of the celebrated French novel, Le Petit Prince (1943) and as such it is called the Little Prince theme park. It also has a gallery displaying sculptures and paintings of le coq gaulois (the Gallic rooster), the national symbol of France; Orgel House where a 200-year-old music box plays a sweet melody; a shop that sells herbal and aromatic products; a souvenir shop; and many other locales where you can experience French culture. The village can accommodate up to 200 visitors with 34 guest rooms that hold four to ten people each.

My Love from the Stars 별에서 온 그대
In Episode 15, Do Min-jun kisses Cheon Song-yi by employing his supernatural powers. This romantic scene unfolds at Petite France 쁘띠프랑스 in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi-do, which has since drawn considerable attention online.

It was also a filming location of variety program Running Man.

Most people make the trip for Petite France 쁘띠프랑스 and Namiseom 남이섬 together (because they are the two attractions closest to each other and are accessible by the same shuttle bus). After walking around Petite France, we went to check out Nami Island 남이섬!

Namiseom Island 남이섬 was formed as a result of the construction of the Cheongpyeong Dam. It is a half moon shaped (462,809㎡) isle, and on it is the grave of General Nami, who led a great victory against the rebels in the 13th year of the 7th king of the Joseon Dynasty, King Sejo (reign 1455 ~ 1468). Namiseom Island is 63 km away from Seoul in the direction of Chuncheon, and is famous for its beautiful tree lined roads. The island is 30 minutes away from Chuncheon and an hour away from suburbs of Seoul. Since it is not far from Seoul, many couples and families come to visit.

Nami Island is famous for these straight-lined trees which adds on to the romantic atmosphere.

We had one of our most awesome dinners on this night: I apologise though for not taking more photos and taking information of that shop down.

SPICY OCTOPUS! Oh.My.Gosh this was so amazing! Spicy yes but DAMN SHIOK (excuse my Singaporean slang here but that comes out when I eat really good food). This was way too spicy for my tastebuds - I was refilling the water tumbler continuously while no Korean got up to get more water. OMG how do they do that? Haha I almost died! 매워!
The order of spicy octopus was ordered in a set where we had this lovely mussel soup to accompany the spicy octopus! So good! No bad unfresh seafood taste, just the natural sweetness of seafood.

Can't seem to find the name of the stall or any trace of it and I do apologise for that since this food was so amazingly delicious =(

I promise I'll be more alert and conscientious about taking photos this time! =)

And we'll be down to the last post of Korea 2012 next time =)

Lots of love for all your support,

Korea 2012: Day 14 (Lotte Mart 롯데마트 Shopping and Ginseng Chicken 삼계탕)

Hey there! We're almost at the end of my 17 day trip! Almost there! And I can move on with food blogging and get more photos from my life in Australia and upcoming Korea holiday!

This post is a continuation from my previous post Korea 2012: Day 13 (Byeokchoji Garden "BCJ Garden" 벽초지문화수목원)

Since it was a relaxing day, and we were also rained in for most of this day, I barely took any photos. So I shall use some of my photos from 2012, and include some stuff which I want to get and do for the upcoming trip!

We started our morning with Kyochon Chicken because it was our 3rd last day in Korea and nobody should pass up on a second opportunity for Korean Chicken. Look at the Honey Soy glaze on that crispy chicken!
냠냠 =)

After that, we decided to stop at Jamsil Station and check out the surroundings of Lotte World (budget trips means no theme parks - plus queueing for rides would be too time consuming).

A replica of the Trevi fountain in Rome =)
After checking out the mall, we proceeded off only to realise it was raining.
Since we were rained in, we were stuck in Seoul Station. DUNKIN DONUTS to the rescue!
(For the record, I much prefer Krispy Kreme to Dunkin Donuts)

And after hours of using our phone, we decided we should check out Lotte Mart and buy back some snacks and souvenirs.

Lotte Mart at Seoul Station.

One of my buys back in 2012 because I absolutely love corn silk tea =)

Other things I hope to get this trip:

Ryeo Shampoo all 2
Ryeo Shampoo: either the purple or brown one which is meant for anti-hair loss.

오사쯔 Sweet Potato Snack from Calbee because I have absolutely fallen in love with this.

A friend has requested that I bring this back from Korea for her since it has been discontinued everywhere else in the world.

삼계탕 (Samgyetang) for dinner!
That means Korean Ginseng Chicken Soup!

Pronounced as Saam--g'yeah--taang

We didn't eat the famous one at Tosokchon but one of the restaurants in Myeongdong. I wouldn't recommend this place though. The food is not bad tasting; its just that this restaurant specialises in serving tour groups so they are always crowded and they have policies such as each person must order 1 pot of Ginseng Chicken Soup (which is really ridiculous).

Jess and I planned to share one pot and then indulge in street food thereafter but the lady said we had to each order one so we were too full for street food after.

My first ever Samgyetang - good. The ginseng and soup really warm you up and give you this amazing energy. You just feel so fueled up after eating this dish. Since the lady was so insistent that we each ordered one pot, I made sure to sit there and finish my food till the last drop and morsel (since it was not cheap).
*I don't mean to sound like a cheapo, but... Two can play that game. If you want to implement stupid restaurant rules, I can sit there for a long time till I finish my food despite your efforts to chase me away. Its your fault for forcing me to buy such a big portion anyway!*

My verdict?
Since it was my first time eating this, I don't have much to compare to. I will acknowledge however that the soup was hot, comforting and satisfying. The ginseng provided energy and the chicken was tender and succulent. Service however is not great here. As i mentioned prior, the restaurant will force you to order one each (mostly if you're in a group of 2) which is just way too big a portion of food. After that, they will try to chase you away as fast as possible to get more customers. They mostly cater to large tour groups so you as a solo tourist, or a small group means nothing much to them and the service given is rather mediocre. In my opinion, NOT WORTH GOING. You're better off trying out another stall elsewhere.
